The Case of Shirley Sherrod

-
-
Background
Now here is a person with her husband and other small farmers. Filed a class action suit against the Department of Agriculture. For discrimination. The Department of Agriculture at that time was denying or making it very difficult for black small time farmers to get a farming loan. In 1999 the suit was settled and pay outs were made. I’m not sure but I believe the Sherrods received $16,000,000.
The hoop-la surrounding the firing of Shirley Sherrod. Is from a failed attempt to help a white farmer. Save his land from foreclosure in 1986. She related this account at an NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet March 27, 2010. Then a Mr. Andrew Breitbart received an edited video of Ms. Sherrods oratory from an associate. And promptly posted it on his blog site. Which in turn was picked up by the media. Followed by the Secretary of Agriculture’s firing of Ms. Sherrod on July 19, 2010.
As stated by said Department of Agricultural Secretary; There is zero tolerance for discrimination at USDA and we strongly condemn any act of discrimination against any person.
Now with all this said and done. Or just getting started. What I was thinking about is. Would the firing of a Georgia State Director of Rural Development for the United States Department of Agriculture appointee. Been fired so swiftly if that appointee was white?
